"It wasn't the plan at all that I would end up in the middle of the construction industry."
So says 34-year-old Malene Kjeldsted, who works as a construction manager at our partner Digital Realty. When she joined MI Support just a year and a half ago, it wasn't in the cards that she would end up working as a consultant on a construction project.
"I had held administrative positions in the travel industry before joining MI Support's head office last year. Here I became part of the administration, where I was responsible for creating reports, sales and meeting overviews and generally pulling things together from week to week," she explains.
The start of an unexpected journey
When MI Support's sales department repeatedly received requests for administrative consultants for projects, it eventually caught Malene's interest.
"In the beginning, it was just a series of typing tasks, so I navigated between being out on the project and in the head office. Before I knew it, I was on the project every day of the week."
Malene's first project was a large new data center, where she worked as a project assistant. She then moved up to project manager on the construction of a new guardhouse/reception, where she is currently responsible for budget, schedule, coordination and reporting.
Safety in the unsafe
Her time in MI Support's administration has given Malene good insight into the company's core values and business model.
"I know that the sales department is always working hard to ensure that my skills can come into play - for example, in connection with a project change or when the current assignment ends. Of course, I also get involved in the process so that we can find the right collaboration together."
All in all, there is much to suggest that working as a consultant and the slightly unpredictable workday suits Malene well. At the same time, she sees great development opportunities in the new industry she has found herself in:
"There is so much to learn and so many exciting tasks to solve," she says. "And right now I really enjoy working as a consultant!"
